Special Olympics Youth Athletics
Youth Athletes Program
The Young Athletes, a program of Special Olympics is a ‘play program’ for children ages 2-1/2 to 7 with intellectual disabilities. Each team practice we will pair a child with a volunteer (ideally 2-3 children per volunteer depending upon number of volunteers and children) and they will work on our various sport/play stations. We focus on one to two skills per night. For example, one night we may focus on running and jumping, one on throwing and catching, etc. This is geared at improving hand-eye coordination, basic motor skills, team working skills and social skills through repetition and demonstration by our volunteers. It will be held in Aurora, but is open to residents of any county, free of charge.
