The ARc ADventures in Learning: Money Safety/Recognizing Exploitation

The class is held over Zoom.

Your money matters so protecting yourself from financial exploitation is important. Young adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities today are facing a perfect storm of personal and social pressures that can compromise their understanding of financial well-being. The Arc ADventures in Learning focuses on financial literacy, so you can make good financial choices when it comes to your money.

Class Overview:

  • Identifying and Maintaining Private/Confidential Information
  • Recognizing Financial Exploitation – What to look out for
  • Intuition – That “Uh Oh” Feeling When Something Doesn’t Feel Right
  • Responding to Requests and Exploitation (includes effective verbal/nonverbal skills, requests for info/money and other common scenarios)
  • Saying “No”- Letting Others Know Your Limits
  • Utilizing a “Trusted Support Person” and Other Resources
  • Planning Ahead – Creating an Action Plan
