Blazing New Trails with Friends

By Luke Wheeland, Director of Community Outreach & Education

This year, The Arc Arapahoe & Douglas blazed new trails away from our usual camping destination at Peaceful Valley to the Easterseals Rocky Mountain Village.  And…we had a great time!  We enjoyed multiple hikes and nature walks, as the weather was beautiful until Sunday morning. We explored the Gold Mine Tour at the Capital Prize Mine in Georgetown, Colorado, and went 1000 ft into an active gold, silver, zinc and lead mine. It was cool to learn how mining worked 150 years ago versus the way things are done today. It was fun for us to take a rock out of the mine and break it open to see what mineral/ore deposit was there – just like real miners. There were many jokes and an abundant amount of laughter. Overall, a wonderful trip!
