4 Reasons You Should Get Active with The Arc on Saturdays

PicMonkey Collage

This summer we rolled out a new program intended for adults and transition age individuals with I/DD – structured to emphasize the importance of fitness and nutrition.

Why you ask? Well the answer’s quite simple…

It’s important to Get Active physically – to take an active role in adapting better eating habits, learn techniques to stay on track, and actively create a blueprint for success that is possible to continue for a lifetime.

There’s also this tidbit of information…

According to the CDC, “Adults with disabilities are three times more likely to have heart disease, stroke, diabetes, or cancer than adults without disabilities.  Aerobic physical activity can help reduce the impact of these chronic diseases, yet nearly half of all adults with disabilities get no leisure time aerobic physical activity.” (May, 2014)

It’s time for all of that to change – and what better way to start than going back to basics and learning the fundamentals of healthy living?

We only have three more sessions left in this amazing program which ends August 16.   Find out 4 reasons you should attend:

  1. Fitness is fun and getting in shape doesn’t have to be boring.  Over the course of the program; students have received visits from Zumba instructors, Hip-Hop dance professionals, and medical students.
  2. Parents, caregivers, and siblings are welcome to attend free of charge.
  3. Each week is a new opportunity to learn something fun and beneficial.
  4. Healthy snacks are always available and participants receive new challenges to work on between classes that will help them form a new relationship with health and nutrition.

We hope to see you this coming Saturday July 19 at 2:00 p.m., at The Arc office located at 6538 S. Racine Circle, Centennial, CO 80011.  For more information or to RSVP, please contact Kim at [email protected] or call 720-457-1032.  The cost for the program series is only $10 for members and $20 for non-members.
